I was just browsing around the web, looking for some ringtones for my new toy, my Cingular 8125. I came across a website for one of my favorite bands called, Nickelback Ringtones. Of course, the site caters to one of the hottest rock bands out there today and one of my favorites, Nickelback. The hard working rock band has been racking up the awards this year. Pussycat Dolls

I have to say that while I think pop music is pretty funny, the Pussycat Dolls are fun to watch. They are sexy, they are silly and they appear to be having a good time. I am not one of those people who thinks that pop music is the end of the human race. If someone finds something entertaining, or enjoys listening to something, then good for them. I mention this because I recently purchased a few Pussycat Dolls ringtones for my sister’s (most likely) soon-to-be step daughters. They are both young and think that the Pussycat Dolls are the bomb. I can’t argue with them.

Ringtone Madness

Ok, who out there doesn’t have a cool, aftermarket ringtone on their mobile phone? Well, I think my mother doesn’t, but she might be the only one. So, here are a few of the latest sites that I have found for some free ringtones. These are all good sites, none of that pop-up, BS, crap that makes you click on 23 links. If you have some other sites that you think are good, please let me know.

Dolly Parton ringtones – that is right. The queen of country, the busty country lady, Dolly Parton. Who said Dolly doesn’t deserve to have some cool sounding tones? Not me. Or, how about some James Blunt ringtones. This guy is going somewhere. I have been listening to more and more country music these days. I am not sure why that is, but I dig James Blunt. Good tones on this site for sure. For all of the rap fans out there, how about some free ringtones from JKon ringtones? I am still a big fan of rap and JKwon hooks it up big time.

Bon Jovi Ringtones

I was just in Moab Utah for the weekend and I forgot how much I liked Bon Jovi. One of the bars that we were hanging out in all weekend was playing all of the great songs from the 80’s and that meant that there was a lot of Bon Jovi playing. That prompted me to see if I could find myself some Bon Jovi ringtones for my new mobile phone. I came across the Bon Jovi ringtones.net site and they have quite a few good sounding tones in .wma format. I am not sure what wma files are, but these things sound really good and are not large files. So, if you are looking for some free Bon Jovi tones, check that site out.

Beatles Music May Go to Sony

Wacko Jacko is looking to raise some money and it looks like that may mean that the Beatles music library, owned by Jackson, may end up in the hands of Sony Music…which would be a huge score for Sony.

Embattled “King of Pop” Michael Jackson has refinanced his debt, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal, but has not released specific details, specifically the impact on his portion of Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC.

Hair Bands Are Back

Have you noticed the trend lately of some of the new Rock and Indie acts to bring back the big hair of the 1980s? I mean check this squad out. I am not even sure if they are all women or not..are they the Pussycat Dolls? Anyway, I love it. ASCAP Targets Copyright Infringement

If you are a performer who likes to “cover” your favorite singer or or band’s songs, then you might want to think twice about doing it for money next time. Our friends as ASCAP is going after nighclubs, bards and others for publicly performing copyrighted material without permission from the publishers. Sweet.

ASCAP Targets Establishments Performing Copyrighted Music without Permission NEW YORK – The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) filed 24 separate copyright infringement actions against nightclubs, bars, and restaurants in 11 states. According to a press release by the Society, these establishments (listed below) have publicly performed the copyrighted musical works of ASCAP’s songwriter, composer and music publisher members without receiving their permission to do so, resulting in lost income for these music creators. “ASCAP is simultaneously filing these 24 actions to create awareness among music users and the public that it is a Federal offense to perform copyrighted music without permission,” said Senior Vice President of Licensing at ASCAP Vincent Candilora.

This is an interesting tactic to take which will surely have ramifications in many different areas of the music world.

Kanye West

So, I saw that Kanye West guy on television over the Labor Day weekend. If you didn’t, the guy made the biggest idiot out of himself. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, he let his emotions get the best of him and I don’t think that he really understood what an effect making stupid statements like he did about the President, would have. But, I will say that Kanye West is an impressive musician. He has a smooth lyrical style and raps on some serious east coast beats. I am glad to see that the hip hop industry has decided to let us hear some artists like Kanye and the rest of his peers.

Sony DRM Drama Continues

Unless you live in a hole in the ground, you have heard about Sony’s use of a type of rootkit for their DRM (Digital Rights Management) on music CDs. I appears that the drama continues for Sony Music. I guess that is what you get when Thomas Hesse, Sony BMG’s global digital business president, said, “Most people, I think, don’t even know what a rootkit is, so why should they care about it?” You have to love it when the president says something as idiotic as that. I am sure he has no idea what a rootkit or trojan is and is a really intelligent guy. One thing I have learned in my short time here on this earth is that it is best not to talk about things you don’t know about. Maybe Mr. Hesse will figure that out sometime soon.

Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer Releases First Album

Rock ‘n Roll hall of famer, Les Paul, has released his firstrock album at age 90. The inventor of the solid body electric guitar has been a member of the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame for years, but the man who has been a inspiration and teacher to many of the world’s most famous rock guitarists has never released a full-length rock album…not until now. This is Les Paul’s first recording since the 1970s and features such big names as Eric Clapton, ZZ Top and Bon Jovi’s Richie Sambora. Congratulations to a rock legend and a man that is still rockin’ at the age of 90.
